It is ironic that one of the world’s oldest civilizations should have sprung from such an inhospitable land as Egypt. It bears testament to the industriousness of those ancient people that they thrived amid the vast swathes of sand. It took up to 30,000 people to construct the Great Pyramids of Giza, which remained the world’s tallest structure for 6,000 years. Such is the scale of the Egypt’s sands that there are even deserts within deserts. Before traveling to Egypt, most notably Cairo, be sure to check State Department advice due to ongoing political unrest.
